14 Year Old Girl Chopped To Death

THE farming community of Newlands, St Thomas, was yesterday rocked to its core following the macabre murder of a 14-year-old girl by criminals who hacked the teenager to death and then dumped her mutilated body metres from her house.

Police reports are that about 5:00 am the grade eight student, Kay Alicia Simpson, went outside her house as she prepared for school.

It is unclear what prompted her to leave the house, but about half-an-hour after doing so her body was found lying face down in bushes close to the one-room wooden structure in which she lived.
"The body had several chop wounds to the back of the head and neck,"

Relatives said that she was in her school uniform when she was killed.

"Have mercy, how people can be so cruel? To come see me niece lay down out there so, still in her uniform blouse," a relative was overheard saying.

"All now we can't believe. The little girl go to her bed sound, so we were really left puzzled when we wake up and could not find her," said Sherika Sinclair, a cousin of the slain child.

She added that her world came crashing down when she heard that Kayalicia, who had dreams of becoming a teacher, was found dead.

Sinclair made the comment metres away from where a small group of residents gathered, whispering among themselves as news of the killing circulated. The gruesomeness of the girl's death triggered shock and anger in the normally quiet, rural community which sits near the town of Yallahs in the eastern parish.

As the cries went out in the community, 53-year-old Eloise Brown, the grandmother of the dead child sat on the step of her neighbour's house and rocked back and forth, holding a piece of cloth as if it was her granddaughter.

"Look how dem kill off mi grandpickney. Me nuh walk and trouble people; she was a girl who took to her books and this is what dem do har," said Brown as her voice trembled.

The St Thomas police yesterday said that they would be steadfast in their search from the girl's killer(s).
"We will not leave any stone unturned in the search for the person responsible for such an act," No motive has been established for the killing.

In the meantime, Kayalicia's death has drawn howls of condemnation. Opposition Leader Andrew Holness urged the Government to "move quickly" to address the spate of attacks against women and children, saying that condolences cannot "bring back our children".

"We cannot continue in a situation where so many of our children, especially young girls, are the victims of these gruesome acts. We have seen too many. This is not just a matter for the police as we, as Jamaicans, must play our role in turning in all the criminals, especially those that prey on our women and children. The Government is failing in its role to protect our children as it seems, instead of getting better, the situation is getting worse," Holness said as he challenged every Jamaican to turn over criminals they know to the police.

Education Minister Ronald Thwaites said that the community must assist in bringing Kayalicia's killers to justice, while the Child Development Agency (CDA) said that the wanton assault on the nation's children continues to be a blot on the collective conscience of the society.

The fact that this murder comes such a short time after the killing of several youngsters since the start of 2015 is an indication that communities need to deepen co-operation with State agencies on stronger action to curb and eliminate violence against our children, the CDA said in a statement.

"It is time that all well-thinking Jamaicans take a stand to reject violence against children in all its forms, by better guiding and protecting our youngsters, instilling in them proper values to make right choices, and exposing the perpetrators of these vile criminal acts so they can face the full force of the law. As long as some citizens treat child abuse as normal and acceptable, our children will be in grave danger of losing not only their childhood, but their very lives," the CDA urged.

The CDA said that its first responders are on the ground in St Thomas "providing counselling and other forms of support to those directly affected by this vicious act".

Buju Banton Asked Be Released and Be Deported Back To Jamaica

Jamaican reggae artiste Mark ‘Buju Banton’ Myrie, who is currently serving a 10-year prison term in the United States for conspiracy to distribute cocaine, has appealed to the courts to “be released and deported to Jamaica” according to reports.

According to a report by The Tampa Tribune, the popular entertainer who is scheduled to be freed in 2019 asked for an early release in the light of a recent change to federal drug sentencing guidelines.

Unfortunately the change won't apply to most of those serving minimum mandatory sentences under the law.

Banton, whose legal name is Mark Myrie, is serving 10 years, the minimum mandatory sentence for his conviction on a charge of conspiracy to distribute cocaine.

The only ways to get around the minimum mandatory sentences would require defendants to cooperate with investigators or at least give a full confession to their crimes.

In his motion, Banton argues he should be sentenced to 92 months in prison under the new guidelines. He says he’s been “working in prison since his incarceration” and has “very good conduct’’ behind bars.

He asks that the court reduce his sentence and turn him over to immigration authorities so he can be deported back to Jamaica.

The federal probation office in the Middle District of Florida has identified 1,748 inmates originally sentenced in Tampa on drug charges as potentially eligible to benefit from the change, known as Drugs Minus 2, because it reduces sentencing guidelines for most drug offenses by two levels. If projections hold true, the average sentence of 11 years and 1 month will be reduced to nine years.

Vybz Kartel’s book rated #1 on Amazon

Book also reached Number 3 on Amazon Best Seller List for its Category
Have you read Vybz Kartel’s Book as yet? Did you realize that it was laden with historical facts and statistics? Like many, you may have dismissed the book but according to the statistics and reviews on the web-site of World Leading retailer Amazon.com, you are missing out. Yes, the book co-written by the controversial DJ whose music is often banned from air-play, the book that was reportedly refused by Christian and “uptown” book stores in Jamaica; the book that many said would never be successful is still growing in readership more than two years after it was first published! The book has been catalogued by the US Library of Congress, acquired by Princeton and Yale Universities, named to the Black Radical Reading List and introduced as recommended reading by many University Professors particularly in the field of History and Cultural Studies. Perhaps this is the biggest literary milestone for the Dancehall legend as he now has a book listed by Amazon.com as the Number 1 Top Rated book on West Indian and Caribbean History on its site. Hence after three years of incarceration Vybz Kartel tops the airwaves in the Caribbean and now his book has gone as high as Number 3 on the Amazon’s Best Seller list for Caribbean and West Indian History.
The validation must be even more rewarding for the Dancehall DJ, now reportedly in the advanced stages of preparing his Appeal, because it comes from readers who bought the book and not from any marketing efforts or the notoriety of the renowned co-Author – in fact, many reviews emphasized the staunch dislike for Kartel, but there were still a number of recommendations for the book to be taught in schools and to be read by every Jamaican, particularly young ones.
Vybz Kartel’s book beats the Random House Published book about President JFK – One Minute to Midnight, into the Number 2 spot. When one considers that Random House is one of the most prestigious Publishers in the world whose credits include publishing the great John Grisham and the recent book by President George W Bush, Jamaicans would have felt a sense of pride if it were any other authors of Jamaican birth particularly because the category which for which the co-authors are number 1, includes writers from French, Dutch and Spanish territories. However, it is expected by the Publishers that the dislike for Kartel by a certain sector of Society will lead to a campaign of discrediting the accomplishment rather than encouraging youngsters to read and learn from the many life lessons that Kartel offers through his experiences good and bad.
Kartel’s co-Author who recently returned from a tour of Europe where the book has had the most success, was very humbled but admitted their focus and success continues to be outside Jamaica. “Addi (Adidja) and I knew the moment we wrote this book that we would get no accolades from Jamaica and we are completely fine with that. To be honest, if I get recognized by any group of Jamaican politicians for my work, I would have failed our people because I detest what the political system has done to my country. In the book, we are literally fighting that system, the system where a Senator casually joked about the subject of rape whilst on the Senate floor, a Senior government Minister flippantly dismissed those who criticized the government on social media as an ‘Articulate Minority’ and where the powers that be general only see justice through the eyes of political lens and while turning a blind eye to the suffering of the poor. In fact, every time the book reaches a milestone or gets a ‘must read’ from a Professor, it comes under attack from politicians, persons in academia who never read the book, parts of the media and certainly Corporate Jamaica, so let the discrediting begin again. Do you know that before being allowed to advertise, we had to sign a disclaimer indemnifying a Jamaican media house “in the event that the reading of the book leads to rioting?’” Dawson said laughing “what could possibly be in a book that could incite a riot”
Last Week the President of the Book Industry of Jamaica, Kellie Magnus, whilst seeing the response to the book first hand at the Miami Book Fair, tweeted “Really interesting mix of people interested in Vybz Kartel memoir. All ages, nationalities, races.” When asked if it is time that our race and our nationality treat the book with the same respect too, Keecha Gooch, COO of the book’s Publishing Company stated – “From Marcus to Bob; from Peter Tosh to Vybz Kartel, as long as you give a Voice to the poor, down trodden or oppressed in Jamaica, you are going to come under fire. It is a Legacy of slavery that won’t be easy to change but Ghetto People Publishing will keep trying – our next book Road to Zion, written by Patrick ‘Curly Lox’Gaynor of Twins of Twins is slated to be released next month and will be another major step for us as part of that mission.”
